THE POSITION Assistant Principal Bassoon/Contrabassoon Currently, the Bassoon Section consists of two musicians, Principal and Assistant Principal/Contrabassoon. As such, the Assistant Principal Bassoon/Contrabassoon currently performs primarily as Second Bassoon, is responsible for Principal Bassoon when the Principal is not in attendance (typically, at least one opera per season), Contrabassoon whenever required, and any other needed parts in the section. About the role The role is for that of 5th (bumper) horn with the ENB Philharmonic both in London and on tour across the UK, supporting the principal horn. You may also be required to play other parts within the section depending on the needs of the repertoire. There may also be a requirement to sit up, following consultation with the section leader. The successful candidate will perform to the highest standard in rehearsals and performances, following the needs of the Artistic Programme and working to priorities set by the Music Director, section leader or orchestra manager. Our touring schedule includes London, regional venues in the UK and may include opportunities to tour abroad. You may also be invited to take part in activity organised by the wider company such as the engagement and development departments. This role is part time and the company guarantee a minimum of 80 sessions throughout the year, although the orchestra usually perform more than this. The full terms of reference for this position can be found in the ENB/MU agreement on the MU website. Key Selection Criteria The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate these qualities and experience: Proven track record of experience in a professional ballet, opera or symphony orchestra. Demonstrable ability to perform a wide range of repertoire, including new commissions. Ability to adapt to the requirements of the schedule of a touring orchestra. A rare opportunity exists for full-time, permanent, and ongoing appointment as a Constable on Trumpet in The Band of the South Australia Police, located at the Gepps Cross Police Complex. A Band Member must play their primary instrument/s to a professional standard, while always presenting a professional image when performing to and engaging with the community. A Band Member is primarily required to perform in the Concert and Parade Bands. Performance in other small ensembles is also required. Band Members are required to perform and march in the Parade Band, and recruits will be instructed in marching drill and ceremonial procedures. The successful applicant will demonstrate a high standard of personal deportment and self-discipline, and a degree of personal fitness and resilience as performances may occur in all weather conditions. All band personnel are shift workers and perform duties in evenings and on weekends as required. A 10% Band Allowance is paid in lieu of shift penalties. All uniform and instruments are provided. The Band regularly travel to regional South Australia, and on occasion may travel interstate and overseas. Prior to auditions, applicants are required to provide recordings of 5 to 10 minutes on Trumpet. Copies of the sheet music will need to be submitted as part of the application via the link below. Live auditions will be held 17 and 18 August 2026 at the Band facility in Gepps Cross, South Australia. You must either be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or hold Australian permanent residency to join SA Police. Musicians are appointed as police officers, but do not undertake operational police work.
